DAILY AFFIRMATION

We begin each class with our daily affirmation. I want my students to hear they are amazing artists, because they are! Life is difficult, even for our students! So to hear and say these words is so beneficial! Our daily affirmation also serves as a way to remind students what is expected from them in the art room and their conduct during art class. At the of each class we repeat our affirmation with areas to improve for next class and the reminder that tomorrow is a new day. We also declare that we have made amazing work during class!

"I am an amazing artist. I am kind and respectful. I will follow directions today and help my fellow artists. I will make amazing artwork today!"

My K-6 Classroom Space...

ART ON A CART?!

I don't have a classroom (yet!) but that doesn't mean that we can't have art class! For most of the year, I set up in the cafeteria. Some days I visit classrooms. For half of the year I set up shop in the gymnasium. Wherever I go, my carts follow me. Wherever I go, we make some amazing art!

Our Mentality...

Artist of the Month...

Each month one student from each grade is chosen as Artist of the Month! The student selected demonstrates what it means to be an artist by always having a positive attitude, helping fellow artists when needed, follows directions and creates artwork to their fullest potential. As Artist of the Month, students get their artwork displayed in the hallway, a certificate and an art supply surprise.

Artist Feedback...

Students provide feedback to each other after each project is completed. During feedback students work on their "artist talk" and offer suggestions on areas of growth along with admiration. Currently, feedback is given on sticky note and through class discussion. Next year we will implement Seesaw on iPads to help with feedback.
